Something A Little Different

Pasil Rueda Verdejo

2005

On The Nose: Pears, Grapefruit, citrus

Palate: Nice acidity that goes away after the first few drinks.  Then  flows into soft tender fruits, with a long soft finish.

The 100% old vines Verdejo is a classic example of a top class Rueda Verdejo. Sold as Blanco Nieva Pie Franco in Spain, it’s made from grapes from very old ungrafted vines. It’s got great concentration and aroma. Very good with fish or fowl.

Big Bold and Red

2000 Beaucanon Cabernet Franc

Beaucanon Cabernet Franc  is a full-bodied red wine from Napa Valley. The nose on the wine is dark and rich; black and blueberry fruit, smoky tea and toasty oak. This complex wine has intense flavors on the palate and the fruit takes over. Red and blackberries come through with dark earthy notes.  Cocoa and tannins are gripping but smooth. Decanting or leaving this wine open to breath for a bit will bring out more of the wine for your enjoyment.

This wine is similar to a bold California Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes produced for this wine come from  15yr old vines. This wine is for the wine lovers who are fans of a rich, intense, bold red! Pair this wine with steak, pasta, pizza, or even on it’s own. This year Beaucanon Cabernet Franc won the Silver Medal in the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition.

Moscato d’Asti of the Month

Marco Negri

Our newest  Moscato d’Asti at Magnums is phenomenal. 2007 Marco Negri from Italy contains a sweet effervescence and has extreme character. Perfect for any summer evening get together or occasion. The nose has floral aromas, honeysuckle, candy, and fresh fruits. This is a great wine for beginner wine drinkers and for those who just love the classic Moscato d’Asti wine. The wine is so smooth it goes down with ease and the fruit flavors are intense.

Moscato d’Asti’s are from Italy and generally have a sweet, light, bubbly, and slightly fizzy characteristic. They are very fruit forward and light bodied wines. This white wine is clear and has a straw color. This wine is great with spicy foods, such as, Thai, Indian, and Mexican. It is the type of wine you cannot just have one glass of. This sweet treat received 86pts from Wine Enthusiast because it is so delicate and delicious! A must try for anyone who wanting something new and refreshing!

Rediscover La Aurora with the new Series 107 cigars

Magnums has been chosen to host the 107th anniversary of La Aurora by releasing the La Aurora Series 107.  For the first 107 customers on Friday, April 30th, Magnums will give you a free 107 with the purchase of any cigar; we will be limiting the 107’s to one per person.

Only 107 retailers from across the country have been chosen to release this cigar.  President of Miami Cigars, Nestor Miranda, has stated with his 20yrs of working with La Aurora, he feels that this is the best cigar they have made thus far. He hopes to introduce more people to La Aurora, and for those who know the cigar company as a light to medium cigar maker, they want people to rediscover the new direction they are taking with a fuller richer smoke.

With La Aurora mastering their more medium Ecuadorian wrappers, they chose to use that as a stepping stone to create a fuller cigar. They started with a premium Ecuadorian sun grown wrapper, then filled it with 6yr old Nicaraguan, and Dominican fillers and binder.  I have not had a chance to try one yet, but I will be trying one very soon.

Please leave your reviews of the La Aurora Series 107 in the comments
