New Products 9/3/10

Its been a while since I’ve posted new products on this blog. In that time we’ve gotten a lot of special and rare products in, and couple new deals. Everything from the reinvention of an old classic, to the release of some amazing cigars.

We’ll start off with the new Chambord vodka. The reinvention of a classic favorite. It still has the classic raspberry flavor, but now its lighter and crisper, perfect for a raspberry martini, or just on the rocks. To introduce it to everyone we have it on sale for only $21.99 from $33.99, and the original Chambord is on sale for $29.99 was $36.99.

As for beers its still a little early for the fall Pumpkin Ales, but we just received Lake Front Brewery’s Pumpkin Lager, this one probably our most popular every year. We also got one more case of the the Espresso Oaked Yeti, and Chocolate Oaked Yetti imperial stouts.

Now for the cigars, We just received a very nice order from La Flor Dominicana, Christmas in September. First was the Litto Gomez Small Batch 3. Selected from Litto’s personal farm, specifically from 2004, this Sumatran seed beauty is being called the best Small Batch yet! Next was with Salomone Maduro, with the naturals being so popular every time they’re released to us, mixed with Litto Gomez’s ability to almost perfect the maduro wrapper; this will prove to be one of his best cigars to date.

Rock Patel Released his 15th Anniversary, the band made to resemble gun metal steel, the cigar’s filler and binder entirely Nicaraguan, while the wrapper is a stout Ecuadorian grown Habano seed. This is one of the most requested cigars we have. We brought back the Alec Bradley Tempus, and Brought in the Prensado.

Contrary to popular belief the CAO Soprano’s edition cigar has not been discontinued, and we just received our new shipment. Also we have finally brought in the CAO El Traviata. Now a new favorite of mine is the Trifundidor, this cigar is smooth, nutty, and a Great Cuban spice to finish it off.

Come to see all the specials we have!

New Cigars 7/17/10

Magnums have finally received it’s shipment of the “Black Top Gurkhas”. These are some of the most popular cigars we have ever carried. Humidified in Louis XIII Cognac, then sealed in a glass tube, and hand dipped in wax to seal in the 100yr old Cognac. Still Only $15.00.

We also now have the Cain Nubs in Maduro and Habano. Having the Cain blended to be a nub means all the flavor the regular Cains have to offer, are now up front through out the whole cigar.

More New Pipe Tobaccos

We just received our latest shipment of new pipe tobaccos. This time we brought in some of the McClelland family of blends. These guys do some amazing things with their tobaccos.

Personally I like a lot of Syrian Latakia in my smoke, so you may notice a little of a biasness in some of the tobaccos I bring in. But I do love a good Virginia or Cavendish as well. So I look forward to hearing some feedback on the blends we already carry, or blends you would like to see us bring in. Also wanted to note that one of my favorite recourses on pipe tobacco is http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/, great user generated reviews, giving you the chance to see all of what’s out there. Let us know if you know of any other great resources for pipe tobaccos.

New Selection of Pipe Tobaccos

With such popularity of our pipe tobaccos everyone loves, such as the Black Cavendish, Black Cherry, Irish Crème; we decided to expand our selection. In the past week we have brought in a large selection of tins from our favorite blenders throughout the world, such as Mac Baren, Esoterica, Ashton, and Peterson.

Mac Baren:

In its 4th generation, Mac Baren has strived to give only the highest quality bends

  • Virginia No1 – A ready rubbed tobacco of exceptional and matured Virginia tobaccos, which bring about its mild and characteristic sweet taste.
  • Mixture Scottish Blend – Mixture is made from more than 35 different tobacco leaves from different parts of the world. Each leaf has its own special qualities and only by blending them in the right proportions does Mixture achieve its unique flavor.
  • Vintage Syrian – Vintage Syrian is not new in any way. Actually the inspiration for the recipe origins back from the start of Mac Baren Tobacco, more than 120 years ago. This blend is typical for that time, and it is easy to describe as a “back to nature” tobacco. The taste of the HH – Vintage Syrian Latakia comes from the full and rich natural flavors of the tobacco.

  • Dark Twist – A full roll cake tobacco for special moments. Round in taste and quite characteristic. The specially spiced, dark Cavendish ensures its pleasant taste and harmoniously matches the choice Virginia tobacco.

Esoterica:

Made in the British Isles, only made in small batches “the old fashioned way”

  • Margate – Here’s a deliciously dark latakia-based blend, provides an exceedingly smooth and dry smoke. It falls into that category of mixtures that tend toward a slight sweetness, not toward bitterness, probably owing to the presence of certain Virginia tobaccos. Its rich, bite-free, nutty latakia flavor has a chocolate-like character that is an outstanding complement to a cup of fragrant black coffee.
  • Pembroke This is Margate with cognac. It’s a somewhat fine, medium-cut blend that, whose long strands tends to cling together a lot when fresh out of the tin. It has fairly high moisture content for an English blend and definitely is easier to pack and smoke after being dried out a little bit.
  • And So To Bed – A ribbon-cut blend of mostly dark tobaccos—about half blackish and half dark reddish-brown, with a sprinkling of blonder strands. In the pouch this smells like a heavy latakia-based English, although perhaps a little sweeter and less smoky than expected. This tobacco have quickly become one of the favorites among the staff at Magnums

Peterson:

The famous pipe maker extends out to create some of the best tobaccos available

  • University Flake – The blend, based on Virginia grades is mixed with Mahogany, brown and orange Virginia and sun cured leaf from India and is slowly pressed for days into cakes of tobacco and then sliced into flake pieces.
  • Sherlock Holmes – This mixture is made from an old Irish recipe dating back to 1880 and is one of the finest tobaccos smoked in the time of Sherlock Holmes. The straight Virginia blend possesses all the natural flavor and aroma associated with Premier Virginia tobaccos.
  • Luxury Blend – A smooth and exquisite blend of three different Virginias, sweetish Black Cavendish, fragrant Burley and a fabulous aroma of Orange and Honey, with an added touch of the all time favorite Vanilla flavor. Specially blended for both taste and aroma.
  • Irish Oak – Originally blended from a rich, dark, heavy bodied Cavendish, this tobacco is made smooth by adding a mixture of Zimbabwean orange smoking grades and aromatic Thailand Burley. It is mellowed using Black Perique blend tobacco from Louisiana bayou. As tradition dictates, the leaf is stored for many years in sherry oak barrels, giving the tobacco its name and an exquisite mature oaken aroma.
  • Irish Whiskey – A traditional Irish ready rubbed blend renowned for its smooth smoking quality. This blend incorporates various selected Virginia leaf to provide roundness of taste. Kentucky Fired, Indian Cured and Aromatic Thailand Burley are then added to the main blend. Finally, a light spray of Irish Whiskey essence gives this tobacco its final, unique aroma.
  • Connoisseurs Choice –
A satisfying, spicy and aromatic blend of Black Cavendish. Golden & Red Virginia mixed with luxury broken flake. The aromatic recipe of Tropical fruit, Vanilla & Rum make this blend smooth and very pleasant.

Ashton:

  • Guilty Pleasure –
This Glorious mixture of Cavendish, Virginia and Carolina Burley carries an irresistible aroma of vanilla, mango and exotic citrus.
  • Smooth Sailing – Pleasurably palatable and wonderfully smooth, this aromatic mixture is slightly nutty, boasting flavors of maple, coconut and dark chocolate.
  • Rainy DayA savory blend of Virginia and Burley Leaf with Velvet Black Cavendish. Aged in Whiskey barrels for precisely one month, this mixture smokes smooth and heralds a marvelous aroma of tropical fruit and hickory nuts
  • Gold Rush –
A pure Virginia blend made of only the most outstanding Virginia Tobaccos. Medium-bodied and smooth, this mixture burns beautifully and renders a natural aroma accented by traces of lemon and honey
  • Artisans Blend –
This full-bodied English mixture is carefully crafted for the experienced pipe smoker. Virginia and Turkish tobaccos harmonize with Syrian Latakia and a touch of Perique to create a taste that is resoundingly rich, spicy and satisfying.
  • Winding Road –
A mellow mixture designed to bridge the gap between aromatic and English style blends. Comprised of golden and dark brown Virginia with a sprinkling of black Cavendish, this excellent blend bears a natural fragrance accompanied by subtle notes of caramel and apricot.

This is only the start of the tobaccos were bringing in, stop by and check it out.

New Beers as of May 7th 2010

~2010 Stone Imperial Stout~

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION: “There’s no question that Stone Imperial Stout is revered among enthusiasts,” states Stone CEO Greg Koch. “I know, because I’m one of ’em and I can hardly wait for it to come out each year!” Some may think that a late Spring release for a special brew of this sort is an odd time for it to come out onto the market. Koch justifies this with the rationalization “What better than a warm time of year to come out with a brew that tastes great as it warms up!” That’s because “ice cold” is certainly not the appropriate way to serve the beer. Nearly without exception, the darker, richer and more alcoholic a brew is, the warmer the serving temperature should be. The Stone Imperial Stout label describes the brew as being “intensely aromatic (notes of anise, black currants, coffee, roastiness and alcohol) and heavy on the palate…expect this mysterious brew to pour like used motor oil and taste even heavier! Serve at 55 degrees.” RATEBEER.com has it rated at a perfect 100pts

~New Belgium Ranger IPA~

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION: Are you a hopinista? Thank our Beer Rangers for inspiring (and begging for) this well-balanced Simcoe, Cascade and Chinook hopped IPA. 70 IBUs. RATEBEER.com rates this one at 95pts

~Dixie Beer~

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION: Slowly aged in Louisiana Cypress Wood barrels, brewed with crystal clear water, genuine barley malt, choice hops, select grains, and pure yeast. RATEBEER.com only gives this 12pts, but this has turned into one of our best selling beers.

~Dixie Blackened Voodoo Lager~

Pours a light brown with little head, aromas of nuts and sweet malts, medium sweet body with more nuts and a light bitterness.  RATEBEER.com rates this one at 45pts, but this has become one of Russes favorites.

~Ale Smith Wee Heavy Scotch Ale~

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Bottle conditioned J.P. Gray’s Wee Heavy Scotch Ale Scotland’s bone-chilling winters command a strong, richly-flavored brew. J.P. Gray’s Wee Heavy is such an ale. Named for Brewmaster Skip Virgilio’s maternal grandfather, J.P. Gray’s is a blend of the prized Maris Otter barley and dark roasted barley which imparts a slightly smoky flavor and a deep chestnut appearance. In the style of a classic Scottish wee heavy, this fine ale is remarkably smooth and malty with background flavors of chocolate and molasses. Warmth is provided by a substantial 9% alcohol by volume. The high alcohol and fresh ingredients allow this ale to age well over time. Appearance: Deep mahogany color, sparkling clarity, and excellent head formation and retention when properly served. Flavor: Deep caramelly malty flavor with just a hint of smoke in the finish. Aroma: The aroma is sweet and voluptuous, reflecting the flavor with malt, hop and yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Lush, full, rounded, almost chewy. This is a BIG beer!  RATEBEER.com has it rated at a perfect 100pts

~Old World Wit~

OMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Wit is identification for Belgium Wheat beer. Old World Wit is a pale golden, tart, and refreshing style. Our Wit is of the classic variety naturally spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel. So new RATEBEER.com hasn’t rated it yet.

~Old World Irish Style Red~

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy, Northern European red ale. Massive amounts of crystal hops gives the malty red a floral and spicy aroma. Finishes with a malty sweetness, this is second to none. So new RATEBEER.com hasn’t rated it yet.

~Papago Oude Zuipers~

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong Belgian Tripel brewed for Papago Brewing Company in Scottsdale, AZ by Van Steenberge. Deep gold color, strong but very well balanced.  RATEBEER.com rates this one at 78pts.
